SK9 - HOUSE | PROGRESSIVE TRANCE
Kovilan Naidoo, alias SK9 found love with electronic music in 2000. SK9 was strongly influenced by The Dutch and German Trance sounds by the likes of Paul van Dyk, Tiesto and his personal favorite and who he calls “the savior to electronic music” - Armin van Buuren.
SK9 bought his 1st DJ mix album titled “The Politics of Dancing” mixed by Paul van Dyk in 2001 and was unbelievably amazed as to how each track flawlessly overlapped each other. This is what motivated SK9 to learn the art of DJ-ing and creating an atmosphere, energy and movement across the different elements in electronic music to work a dance floor into pure bliss.
Also influenced by Club 330 and observing superstar DJ Sam Boylan, SK9 used this motivation to get a pair of decks and on his own practiced and learnt the technical aspects of mixing until he felt confident enough to hand over demo CDs and promote himself, thus landed in the hands of E.M.P. and began his DJ career playing live with E.M.P. events around the Durban Clubbing Scene. Following on the years with events by Retox and Frantic South Africa “Who Wants To Be A F#cking Resident” DJ competition…finally SK9 had his dreams come true and landed a residency at Traxx nightclub in 2008. Whilst being a die hard Trance fan, SK9 doesn’t trap himself to one style only, you can catch him behind the decks playing tough, progressive house, uplifting progressive trance and even tearing up a mix of hard funk and hard dance.
“I fell in love with music back when I was too young to enter a club and it’s now a way of life, it’s more than just a passion and love. It’s not about money, fame and the guest list. It’s the feeling the crowd gives you when they sing along to a record that’s your favorite, it’s about the way they scream and shout when the record gives them Goosebumps and a burst of energy at 5am. Ultimately it’s about everyone coming together as one and celebrating with Dance Music.”
